MONTESSORI "MATERIAL"
Control and Coordination of Movement
Silence Game

 

 

What is it?

* This is a game we play with the children to encourage the ability to be silent when needed. The guide can facilitate this game through gathering a group of children, having them sit quietly and whispering each child's name until they are all gathered around her. 
* Another way to play this game when all the children are very familiar with it, is for the guide to write silence on the chalkboard. As children notice the sign, they begin to let other children know, until the whole class is quite. At this point the guide may choose to do many things: call the children's names quietly (as previously), sit quietly for a moment before inviting the children to return to their work, recite a poem, etc...

 

Why do we do it?

* Coordination and refinement of movements of the whole body
* Development of the will
* Social cohesion


How to help at home?

* Spend some quite time with your child at home. If you meditate, invite your child to join you for some of that time.

Maria Montessori, the pioneer

From an early age she broke through the traditional barriers for women, attending a technical school with initial ambitions to be an engineer, to go on to choose a career in medicine. In 1896 Montessori became one of the first Italian women ever to obtain a medical degree.

The capable child

A Montessori child is capable, independent, curious, able to take initiative and is academically strong. Montessori is an educational approach which is based on the scientific foundation of the natural development of human beings – which is why it is a truly universal education with successful outcomes for all children.

Biography of Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori was born on 31 August 1870 in the town of Chiaravalle, Italy. Her father, Alessandro, was an accountant in the civil service, and her mother, Renilde Stoppani, was well educated and had a passion for reading.
